BCNCB   UTILIZAÇÃO  DE  PREFIXOS  POR  CÓDIGO  DE  ÁREA  NO  BRASIL

Todos os telefones fixos no Brasil tem oito algarismos e os códigos de área dois dígitos. Cada número nacional de telefone no Brasil obedece então o formato AB-CDEF-GHIJ, onde AB é o código de área (ou DDD), CDEF é o chamado prefixo e GHIJ corresponde ao milhar do telefone. Para a telefonia fixa, o primeiro algarismo do prefixo varia entre 2 e 5. A tabela abaixo mostra para cada código de área existente, quantos prefixos estão em utilização, por algarismo inicial do prefixo e totais (conforme dados obtidos da página da Anatel em janeiro de 2009).
All fixed telephones in Brazil are eight-digit long and the area codes two-digit long. So, each national telephone number in Brazil is under the format AB-CDEF-GHIJ, where AB is the area code (locally known as DDD), CDEF is the so-called COC (Central Office Code) and GHIJ is the thousand of the telephone number. For fixed telephones, the first digit of the COC ranges from 2 to 5. The table below shows, for each existing area code, how many COCs are in use, per COC initial  digit and totals (as of January 2009 from Anatel website information).
